I'm Bird, or Anuphong Khienthong on paperwork. I photograph weddings across Thailand, and Krabi is the one province where logistics matter as much as light. As a Krabi wedding photographer I read the tide table and the boat timings before I think about a single frame, because on this coast those two things decide what your photographs can look like.
Limestone cliffs drop straight into the Andaman here. Longtail boats are public transport. Several of the best places to stand with a camera have no road running to them. Krabi photographs unlike anywhere else in the country, and it punishes anyone who turns up without knowing how the place works.
Most people planning a wedding in Krabi, Thailand fly in from somewhere else, usually with 10 to 60 guests. Some marry at a resort with a planner running every detail. Others land, take a longtail to Railay with two witnesses, and say their vows barefoot at sunset.
I've covered Catholic ceremonies, Christian church services, Buddhist blessings, civil registrations and symbolic vows. I've worked full multi-day Indian weddings, from the pre-wedding events through to the reception. The structure changes every time. The job doesn't.
For the first ten minutes I don't lift the camera. I'll ask what you had for breakfast, or give the groom grief about his shoes, anything that gets the two of you talking to each other instead of performing for me.
There's one moment I look for at every wedding. Right after the ceremony ends, before anyone pulls you into group photos, I ask you to walk. No direction, no posing, just the two of you moving toward the reception or down to the water. I stay back with a long lens and let it happen.
It's usually the frame couples end up loving most, because it's the one moment all day when nobody told them what to do.
By the time I start shooting properly, most couples have forgotten I'm in the room. That's the entire point.
Three things shape how your day photographs here, and none of them show up in a resort brochure.
Railay East drains to mudflat at low water. Phra Nang roughly doubles in width. Spring tides on this coast run close to two metres, so the beach in the venue photos is not always the beach you get at four in the afternoon. I check the tide table for your date before we discuss timings.
Railay has no road access at all. You arrive by longtail from Ao Nang, around 15 minutes, or from Chao Fa pier in Krabi Town, 20 to 45 minutes depending on the sea. No cars on the peninsula, only a few resort tractors moving luggage. Everything you and I carry comes off the back of a boat, sometimes ankle-deep.
Phra Nang and Railay West fill with day-trippers from roughly 11am to 3pm. Before 9am and after 5pm the same sand is close to empty. Railay West is where the sun drops straight into the Andaman, which is why I push portraits to the last hour of light.
Worth knowing: the shrine inside Phra Nang Cave is an active site for local fishermen, not a backdrop. I'll photograph near it. I won't stage anyone on it.
Dry season runs November to April. September and October are the wettest months on the Andaman side. I keep shooting in rain when it's safe, and I build indoor fallbacks into the plan, because plans here move.
I don't hand couples a venue list to choose from. If your ceremony is on a stretch of sand with no name on it, I'll get there.
Eight hours of coverage as standard, four for an elopement. Photographs land in ten days, film in five weeks, rush delivery available. Every frame is reviewed and edited individually, never run through a batch preset.
I shoot two Sony bodies, an A7 IV and an A7 V, so one equipment failure never costs you coverage. Cards get backed up before I leave the venue. It isn't glamorous, but it protects a day you can't repeat.
Extra hours are ฿6,000 ($170) solo, or ฿10,000 ($290) for the pair.
We got married on Railay with eleven people total. Bird was the one who noticed the tide would be right out at 3pm and pushed everything back an hour. I'd never have thought of it. He barely said a word during the ceremony, then handed us a photo of my mother crying that I didn't know existed.

The boat part stressed me out worse than the wedding itself did. Bird sorted the longtail, wrapped his gear in dry bags and just got on with it while I panicked about my dress getting wet. He's quiet, almost too quiet, and then the gallery arrives and you realise he was everywhere. Not one photo where we look posed.
