I am Bird, and I photograph weddings across Thailand. Working as a Pattaya wedding photographer means knowing this coast in operational terms: which ballrooms take four hundred people and which take fifteen hundred, which lawns hold a mandap, and how far the light moves between December and September.
This page covers how I shoot here, what lands in your gallery, what it costs, and what I need from you. Read it before you write to me, so our first conversation starts somewhere useful.
Indian and Pakistani Weddings in Pattaya
Pattaya carries a large share of Thailand's South Asian wedding traffic, and the reasons are practical rather than romantic. Suvarnabhumi sits under two hours away by road and U-Tapao is about thirty minutes out, which matters when eighty relatives land on six different flights across two days.
The ballrooms take the guest counts these weddings actually run. The Royal Cliff group hosts South Asian celebrations at up to a thousand guests, with the PEACH centre on the same grounds scaling well past that. The Napalai Ballroom at Dusit Thani seats around 1,500. Melia Pattaya runs four event spaces across 773 square metres for roughly 368 guests.
The supply chain already sits here. Dhol players, Bollywood DJs, mandap decorators and halal kitchens all operate locally, so families are not flying vendors in from Delhi or Lahore.
That geography does something useful for coverage. One resort usually holds every function, so the baraat comes up a driveway, the mandap sits on a lawn or on sand, and the reception runs indoors that same night. Nobody loses ninety minutes to traffic between events, and I never have to choose between the bride getting ready and the groom arriving.
How I Cover a Multi-Day Celebration
- Mehndi or dholki. Close detail work on hands and feet, usually under mixed indoor light, plus the room around it. This is where the family relaxes, and it produces frames the formal days never will.
- Haldi or mayun. Bright, chaotic, and the one function where nobody minds getting ruined. I shoot it fast and stay out of the turmeric.
- Sangeet. Stage lighting here is coloured and moving, so I set white balance for the performers rather than the room and shoot the audience reactions between numbers.
- Baraat. Outdoors in full afternoon heat, which in April means 33 degrees with dhol, dust and a crowd that keeps changing direction. I work ahead of the procession and low, so the groom arrives into frame instead of away from it.
- Ceremony. Mandap, Anand Karaj or nikah, each with its own restrictions on where a photographer may stand. I confirm those with the officiant beforehand, not on the day.
- Vidai or rukhsati. Ten minutes, poor light, often beside a car, and nobody reruns it. I position for it before it begins.
- Reception or walima. Formal portraits early, then speeches, then the floor. Two of us cover this so the stage and the tables both get seen.
Ceremonies and Traditions I Prepare For
- Hindu ceremonies: ganesh puja, milni, jaimala, pheras around the agni, sindoor and mangalsutra, vidai
- Sikh Anand Karaj: laavan, ardaas, and the seating and head-covering rules that dictate where I can work
- Muslim and Pakistani weddings: nikah and the signing of the nikahnama, mehr, joota chupai, rukhsati, walima
- Gujarati, Punjabi, Tamil and South Indian variations, each with its own running order
- Thai Buddhist blessing ceremonies and water-pouring rituals
- Catholic and Christian church weddings, civil registrations and symbolic vows
- Chinese tea ceremonies, including the kneeling sequence and the order families expect
Two exposure problems repeat at nearly every South Asian wedding on this coast, and both are solvable if someone thinks about them in advance.
A mandap puts a canopy over the couple's faces and open sky behind them. Left alone, a camera exposes for the sky and the faces go dark. I meter for the faces and manage the background, which is why my mandap frames are not silhouettes.
Pheras happen around fire, in warm dim light thick with smoke, and the couple's faces are only visible for part of each round. Knowing which part comes from having sat through it, not from reading about it.
What Makes a Pattaya Wedding Different to Shoot
Pattaya Beach and Jomtien both face west. The sun drops into open Gulf water directly in front of you, with nothing in the way, and that single fact drives most of the planning.
In December and January the light goes between roughly 17:50 and 18:10. A ceremony at 16:30 hands you a golden hour that lands right on your couple portraits without moving anyone. From June to October sunset shifts back to around 18:35, which usually separates the ceremony from the good light entirely.
When that happens I ask for fifteen minutes. We step away, walk down to the water, and I shoot the two of you while your guests are still on their first drink. Nobody misses you, and you get the frames you came here for.
I raise this on our first call, not on the morning of the wedding.
Planning a Wedding You Cannot Visit First
Most couples booking me here have never stood on the site. That is normal, and it changes what I owe you before the day.
I speak English and Thai, so I deal with your venue's events team, your decorator and your celebrant directly, with no translation layer between what you asked for and what gets built. Thai vendors answer differently in Thai. That is not a criticism of anyone, it is just how it works.
I build the shot timeline against your planner's running order rather than separately from it. If your ceremony start and your sunset are going to argue, you hear it from me at the planning stage while the schedule can still move.

Venues and Locations
I hand nobody a venue list to pick from. I travel to your ceremony, and I have worked along most of this coast.
Royal Cliff, Dusit Thani, Centara Grand Mirage and Amari all carry the ballroom capacity and the outdoor ground that large South Asian weddings need in the same property. The headland resorts on Phra Tamnak Road put Koh Larn on your horizon, which gives portraits a background that reads as somewhere rather than anywhere. Renaissance offers a lawn of around 545 square metres plus a beachfront deck, useful when the covered fallback needs to sit one step away rather than one building away.
Further out, Na Jomtien and Wongamat give you width and quiet. Sea Sand Sun, Movenpick Siam and Veranda all sit on stretches where a long lens keeps strangers out of frame.
Pattaya Beach itself is a promenade first and a beach second. If your ceremony is on that stretch I shoot tighter and work from the water side. A beach wedding in Pattaya holds up well here, but only when someone plans the angles in advance.

How to Prepare
Book the ceremony sixty to ninety minutes before sunset if the shot you want is on sand. Everything after that becomes manageable.
Send me the running order as soon as your planner has a draft, even a rough one. For a multi-day wedding I need to know which functions overlap, because that decides how many of us are working.
Tell me the two family moments that matter most to you. A grandmother who flew in against her doctor's advice, an uncle who has not seen your mother in ten years. Those get covered before anything optional.
Ask your planner about drone permission early, since resort policy and airspace rules both apply and neither gets sorted on the day. Keep a second pair of shoes near the aisle, because sand and heels do not cooperate.
Build a rain plan into your contract rather than your hopes. September and October carry seventeen to eighteen wet days each, though showers here usually run an hour and then clear.
For portraits at the Sanctuary of Truth, entry runs 500 baht per adult and the gate shuts at 18:00, last admission 17:00. Sunset there is off the table, so we shoot it mid-afternoon and keep the beach for the end of the day.
Pattaya Wedding Packages
- Wedding. Eight hours of coverage, photo and film, team of two. From 99,000 baht (approx. $2,830 USD).
- Elopement. Four hours of coverage, photo and film, team of two. From 72,000 baht (approx. $2,060 USD).
- Photo or Video Only. Single-service coverage. From 42,000 baht (approx. $1,200 USD).
Extended hours run 10,000 baht per hour for photo and film together, or 6,000 baht per hour for a single service. Multi-day weddings and custom requests are quoted individually.

We planned everything from Delhi and did not see the venue until two days before the mehndi. I kept waiting for something to go wrong. Bird had already settled the timings with the hotel in Thai and told us where the mandap light would sit at four. He caught my father during the vidai from across the driveway. That photograph is in my parents' living room now.
