Wedding Photographer in Koh Samui

I'm Bird, a documentary Koh Samui wedding photographer. I photograph the day as it happens, not the version people hold still for the camera.

A documentary eye on your wedding day

The moments most people forget until they see the photos.

A wedding day is full of moments most people forget until they see the photos: the nervous laugh before the ceremony, the look a couple gives each other when they think no one's watching. Those are the ones I chase, and the reason people hire a Koh Samui wedding photographer in the first place.

My name is Anuphong Khienthong, though most people just call me Bird. I've photographed over 100 weddings on this island and across the country, and my work has been recognised and awarded in Thailand. Koh Samui is my base, so I'm not flying in blind to a place I've never worked.

I run Siamelle on my own, so when you hire a wedding photographer in Samui through Siamelle, the person you message is the person at the back of your ceremony months later, not an account manager or a handoff.

Your Koh Samui wedding photographer, on the day

By the time I start shooting, you've forgotten I'm there.

Most couples tell me, before the day starts, that they feel awkward in front of a camera. So for the first ten minutes I usually don't lift it. I'll ask what you had for breakfast, give the groom grief about his shoes, anything that gets you talking to each other instead of posing. By the time I actually start shooting, you've forgotten I'm there. That's the point.

My style blends documentary storytelling with creative portraiture. There's one moment I look for at every wedding: right after the ceremony, before anyone pulls you into group photos, I ask you to just walk, no direction, the two of you moving toward the reception or down to the water. I stay back with a long lens and let it happen. It's usually the shot couples love most, because it's the one moment all day nobody staged. If you want the day to look like yours rather than a template, that's why to book me over a photographer who directs every frame.

Who this is for

If you want the day to look like you, not a catalogue.

01 / FIT

Couples who want the day to look like them, not a catalogue of poses.

02 / FIT

International couples flying in for a beach wedding in Samui, a villa celebration, or a resort ceremony, from an elopement for two up to a multi-day event.

03 / FIT

Couples marrying across cultures and traditions, who want a photographer who understands their ceremony before it starts.

If you want a photographer who hands you a set of magazine poses, I'm probably not your person. If you want the real thing, kept honestly, we'll get on.

Ceremonies and traditions I've covered

Ceremonies I know before they start.

Thailand draws couples from all over the world. I've photographed Catholic ceremonies, Christian church weddings, Buddhist blessing ceremonies, and civil and symbolic ceremonies, each with its own structure and its own moments that matter most to the families involved.

On the Indian weddings I've covered, I've worked the full run of events, from the pre-wedding celebrations through to the ceremony and reception. Coverage like this only works with preparation, so I work closely with planners and families beforehand, and the running order and key family moments are understood before I take the first photo.

The team

How many of us show up depends on your day.

1 CREW

A photo-only or video-only booking is usually just me.

2 CREW

Photo and film together is a team of two, one on stills, one on motion.

≤5 CREW

For larger or multi-day weddings, where getting-ready rooms, a ceremony and a reception happen at once, I bring in up to five photographers and videographers so nothing gets missed.

ALL

Whoever is on your wedding shoots and edits to the same standard I do, and I'm on every one of them.

Featured weddings and venues on Koh Samui

Where I've worked on this island.

I've photographed weddings at Conrad Koh Samui, InterContinental Koh Samui, W Koh Samui, and Vana Belle, a Luxury Collection Resort, along with private villas and quieter beachfronts most couples never see in a brochure.

South-West · Taling Ngam

Conrad Koh Samui and InterContinental Koh Samui sit on the south-west, the sunset-facing side, so ceremonies get real golden-hour light and the sun dropping into the sea, not the flatter light of the east coast.

Maenam · Chaweng Noi

W Koh Samui is bolder, built for a celebration that feels like a party; Vana Belle is a quieter beachfront away from the main crowd.

Private · Anywhere

Private villas are the easiest setting to work candidly: the beach is genuinely yours, with no onlookers in the background and no curfew cutting the night short.

Field Note

It's worth asking any venue which way its ceremony spot faces, so you know exactly where the light will be when you say your vows.

TIP

One thing a couple planning from abroad can't know yet: the sun drops fast here, so I'd rather start the ceremony around 45 minutes before sunset.

What couples say

In their words.

"We're both reserved and I was sure a stranger with a camera would make the day stiff. Bird just vanished into it. He never once posed us, and twenty minutes later he'd show us something we didn't even know had happened. That's the only reason the photos actually look like us."

Priya & Callum Reeve · Melbourne, Australia

"My father has never cried in front of me. Bird caught the second he did, right after the vows, from somewhere I didn't even see him standing. Half my family didn't believe the photo was real."

Meike & Rohan Desai · Mumbai, India

"We never felt handled. No look here, do this. Bird read the pace of the day and stayed out of it, and that's exactly why nothing got missed."

Xin Yi & Daniel Ong · Singapore

Common questions

The things couples ask first.

Q.What if it rains?

I keep shooting whenever it's safe to, and we plan a backup indoor location ahead of time, so a passing storm doesn't stop the day.

Q.What happens if a camera fails?

It doesn't cost you coverage. I shoot on two Sony bodies at once, and every card is backed up before I leave the venue.

Q.How many photos do we get?

The full edited set from the day, not a capped number. Every image is corrected individually before it reaches your gallery.

Q.Do you travel outside Koh Samui?

Yes. Koh Samui is my base, but I work across Thailand and on destination weddings elsewhere on request. Travel is quoted per wedding, and I don't work from a fixed venue list.

Q.How does payment work?

A deposit secures your date, with the balance due before the wedding. I set out the exact schedule in your proposal.

Why this stays worth doing

The look, and the thousand smaller ones like it.

Twenty years from now, your children won't remember what the flowers cost or how the tables were laid. They'll remember how your father looked at you before he walked you down the aisle, and if anyone caught it. That look, and the thousand smaller ones like it, is what I photograph.

If that's the kind of Koh Samui wedding photography you're after, tell me about your day, your date and your venue, and I'll reply personally with availability and a proposal. I take on a limited number of weddings a year, so the earlier you reach out, the better the chance your date is open.
